What is a sensory gym, and what are its benefits?
A sensory gym is a specially designed space that features various sensory-rich activities and equipment to support children’s development in areas such as motor skills, coordination, and sensory processing. The benefits of a sensory gym include improved balance, strength, and coordination; enhanced sensory integration; increased focus and attention; and enhanced emotional regulation. By improving these skills, children can engage in everyday activities more comfortably, ultimately boosting their confidence and overall well-being, particularly for those with sensory processing challenges.
Do I need a referral from my doctor before attending Physical or Occupational Therapy?
In New York, pediatric occupational therapists (OTs) can evaluate and treat children without a physician’s referral for up to 30 days. This “direct access” applies specifically to services that are not designed to restore a function, such as handwriting, learning, or developmental skill training commonly used in pediatric care, provided the client is not in acute care.

What ages do you work with?
We provide individual and group occupational therapy services for children ages 2 to 16 years.
How do I know if my child needs occupational therapy?
If your child is struggling with everyday activities such as fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care, or has difficulty focusing and engaging with tasks, they may benefit from occupational therapy. An evaluation by an occupational therapist can help determine their specific needs and guide you on the next steps.
How long will my child need therapy?
The duration of therapy depends on your child’s unique needs, goals, and progress. Our therapists will regularly assess their development to determine if therapy goals are being met with at least 80% accuracy. At that point, discharge planning will occur, and we will create a home exercise / sensory plan to support skill maintenance and carryover at home.
Can you work with my child if they get OT services at school?
Yes! Our services can complement their school-based therapy by focusing on specific areas of need and providing additional support. We will collaborate with you and your child’s school to ensure a comprehensive approach to their development and progress.
Can I be present for my child's session?
Yes, our facility has HD cameras in the sensory gym, allowing parents to view live footage on the television in the waiting area. After each session, our therapists will meet with you to discuss your child’s progress, answer any questions, and provide recommendations for home activities.
